New Years @ Kota Kinabalu, SABAH!!

SABAH....

Great Picture

This year, New Years for me was celebrated in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I was sent there on an assignment for NYE, knowing that it would be truly boring, I made the best out of it by making sure my wife went with me and do a little island hopping.

Me and Terry ready to coz TROUBLE!

So I planned out the trip with my buddy who was there with me, Terry ( Soon to be Angler ) to the 3 islands in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, covering 3 islands : Manukan, Mematik and Sapi.

Waking on the morning of NYE at 7:30am was a painful..the night before mand my wife were watching DVD’s till 4 in the morning…yes it was that boring. Nevertheless, the calling of the islands off KK was just too tempting plus we already paid a deposit of RM 150 so we journeyed on to Jesselton Point where the boatman was awaiting our arrival.

The CLEAR WATERS...

TODAK SPOTTED

The TODAK

First Stop - Sapi Island

When we reached the island, the water was just SUPER clear…. We could see fishes and the island looked kinda deserted. As we walked on the beach, we realized that the sand on the beach wasn’t as fine as those you’d get from Rawa island. And it wasn’t as white too.

We had breakfast there and I must say it was one of the worse breakfast ever. Mee goring and they tried really hard to cook us AMERICAN BREAKFAST but everything just tasted like oil. Terry was complaining that the lemon from the honey lemon drink they served was rotten and shit.

GIANT Mantis Prawn!!!!

NYE @ Kota Kinabalu Sabah
Aster breakfast we headed into he water. Within 15 minutes another boat arrived with about 20 people on board. So we thought ok, cant be that bad…then boats after boats arrived and soon Sapi Island was just crawling with people.

We then called our guy and went to the next island, Manukan Island.

Second Stop – Manukan Island.

Manukan Island

This looked even better than the first one. Nice long beach but just too many people. Funny thing is, no one goes to the left of the island….its kinda weird when you see hundreds of people concentrating on snorkeling only on one side so we moved to the other side.

Much much better…quiet and no disturbance….until some people decided that it is time to kayak on the left side of the island. We decided that it was time to move on to the Island highly recommended by the boatman, Mematik Island.

Third Stop – Manutik Island

Seriously, when the locals advise you on something, you should just follow it….this was the bestest island of ALL. Quiet, and just….nice…I would advise anyone to skip the other 2 and just head straight to this one.

While we were travelling between these islands, I cant help but to wonder how fun it would be if we could do some popping or even jigging at these spots. The water was crystal clear although I didn’t manage to see any big fishes other than that bigger than average todak by the jetty, im sure there are some huge mama’s lurking in the water.

On the last day, I checked my blog and someone posted for me to visit Geo Fish Tackle shop. I made my way there with my wife, in hope that there was something for me to buy for New Years present but then they only carried Xzoga, Tenryu, SEVENSEAS and PALMS. But the boss, a really nice guy called Darel told me that they actually have some FISHERMAN rods comin in MARCH!!! And I can call to make a booking if I wanted to! FOR SURE LAAAA……
