THRILLIN THAILAND!

BUNGSAMRAN FISHING PARK, BANGKOK, THAILAND

Sawasdeekap, kop kun kap laptingkap!! Im back from the AMAZING land of THAILAND.This was a special trip for me as it is for my wedding in Thailand with my wife’s family members in Thailand and also to “Jum Cha” to my father-in-law who couldn’t be here to witness the KL wedding.

7SEASPROSHOP!!

Ofcourse, I arranged a little something special for the trip, a visit to Bungsamran Fishing Park for some Pla Buk / Mekong Catfish action!. I brought my younger brther along for this one just to give him a little taste of what fighting a 10kg and above fish feels like. The arsenal prepared for the trip was as follows:

Stella SW 8000 PG 08’ ( Wonderful wedding gift from my wife )
Saltiga 4500-Z S.O.M ( I just had to test this baby out! )

I didn’t bring any rods for the trip because it would be a hassle at check in….NOT, the real reason was so that I can buy new rods here in the 7SEASPROSHOP located in the fishing park. I saw on their website www7seasproshop.com that they had the Hot’s Fake Lez, I GOTTA have it…at ANY cost. I was supposed to have it earlier but there were a little complications with the transportation from Japan so now, this is the BEST opportunity for me to get the rod that I have been CRAVING for past few months since I started blogging!

FRIDAY 14th NOV 2008

THESE ARE MINE!!!!

REPORTING TO KHIAN

When we arrived, there weren’t much people around coz it’s a Friday afternoon, half the world is actually at work but lucky me and my brother, we are in the Land of Smiles, Bungsamran Fishing Park ready for some serious tackle thrashing!

The price per person had increased since the first time I was here 2 years ago. It used to be THB500 / rod, now its THB1000 / rod. Actually, for the 2 of us, 1 rod is more than enough because there will be hook-ups after hook-ups, but because I HAVE to try out my new toys, PAY and HAVE FUN.

We booked a bungalow so that we could fish in comfort, we got a guide to do all the dirty work for us while we chilled and relaxed at the bungalow. The cost breakdown for the entire trip is as follow:

TAXI RIDE THB500 to and from the place from Sukhumvit Soi 8
BUNGALOW THB800
2 RODS THB2000
1 GUIDE THB1000
2 ROD RENTAL THB1200
REFUNDABLE DEP. THB2000

TOTAL MINUS DEPOSIT – THB5500 = +/- RM550.00 = FARKING FUN LOR
This is the address and Tel number of 7SEASPROSHOP. You can call and ask for directions. Just make sure you tell the cab driver to go by meter and NOT use the highway.

Just get onto Navamin Road, look out for Soi 42, turn in and drive ALL the way inside. It will be a good idea to tell the cabby to came back and pick you up as it is kinda difficult to get a cab in that place.

Well back to fishing. We’ll just let the pictures and smiles do the talking from here. ALL fishes were minimum of 15kg. All in we landed 12 fishes, lost 2 in a span of 3 hours before we were super exhausted. Don’t forget to bring your own Fishing Belt. I took the opportunity to buy one there, but 1 isn’t enough when you get double hook-ups like ALL the freakin time!

The BIGGEST CATCH

IM SERIOUS...its HUGE!

It’s a good idea to get the guides. They make sure you get a fish. They know where to cast, the ingredients for the bait, and they change the bait like every 5 minutes! Well worth your money.

After 3 hours of SOLID fishing, Christopher had the biggest catch of 20kg plus. After that one, the white flag came up and he suggested we stop fishing already coz he couldn’t feel his arms no more.

We walked back to the tackleshop and took a more serious look around. This place is HEAVEN for fishing kaki’s. they hav the FULL range of the 08’ Stella’s, SEVENSEAS Rods, Poseidon’s, Valley Hill, Blue Roses and…..wait a minute, I didn’t see my HOT’S! I was a little worried when I couldn’t find it. I tried helplessly talking to sales girl but she had no idea what I was talking about and I was about to get REALLY furious!

How can we forget..."NGAU JUK"

Suddenly, a familiar face walked in, It was a guy I’ve seen on the fishing DVD’s, I believe he was JAI, the owner of the place. Thank god he spoke English and THANK YOU WHOEVER IT IS UP THERE that he spoke in “tackle talk” to me. He said he can get the rod for me, but only MONDAY. I was like no issues, bring it on, I’ll see you on Monday. In the meantime I would like to take the Valley Hill rod to go. It was a red colored rod, Explorer. I never liked red rods so I have no Idea why I even looked at it. After that deal, we headed back to Citadines Hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 8.

The next few days, I just chilled in the room and wondered why I chose that Valley Hill. I couldn’t take it no more, Red isn’t really my color so I decided, I will get the Poseidon instead. PE FARKING 4 just like KHIAN.

MONDAY 17th NOVEMBER 2008

Monday I headed to 7SEASPROSHOP to check on my rods arrival. I was so excited that I didn’t even call them. Big Mistake, the rod hasn’t arrived yet. The guy told me Wednesday morning. I was FURIOUS! Im leaving on Wednesday evening, Wednesday morning is just cutting it too close! But they were cool, telling me for sure I will have the rod and if need be, they will send it to the airport for me.

That was a pretty cool deal. I told them I will take the Poseidon too, have it packed by Wednesday morning.

WEDNESDAY 19th NOVEMBER 2008, 8am

I couldn’t sleep the whole night. We stayed at my brother-in-laws place, quite far from civilization. I was so worried that I wouldn’t catch a cab at all. I waited for the phone call like I was waiting for my exam papers.

At 11am sharp, I received a phone call. It was “7SEASPROSHOP di ka” I jumped up, ran downstairs, wished my wonderful in-laws good morning and told them I gotta go. I ran out of the house and god smiled upon me again, there was a CAB just about to leave the area I was staying in.

I jumped in, passed him the address, he nodded and we were off to see my new TOY! The excitement in the cab nearly killed me!

When we arrived, I told the cabby to wait for me and I will give him a THB200 tip. I ran straight into the shop, only to see a saddened face lady saying, “SORRI SER, YOU HAVE WAIT HAF HOUR MORE?” Im like are you kidding! For sure. In 20 minutes, my new baby arrived. The moment was ….just special. Its like a rod going back to its rightful owner.

To all who is reading this blog, I would appreciate if you stood up now, and show some respect to the NEW owner of a HOT”S FAKE LEZ rod!! Mr G.T King! I will post up pictures of the rods later ( Fake Lez + Poseidon ) as it is 3 in the pagi so I really need to sleep.

Thank you thank you….far too kind, far too kind.

“SOMETIMES CAN” Anglers…this time VERY CAN!

PULAU RAWA

Sun, Sea and Soft White Sands

Just got back from my wedding shoot in Pulau Rawa. Its really a beautiful place to be, the white sands, the clear blue water and the civilized people who are at the island just makes the place irresistible.

Day 1

The view from Our Room

We took off from KL at about 5pm, reached Mersing Jetty at about 8:45am, just in time for the first boat to Pulau Rawa. We checked in at the reception in Mersing and off we were to Pulau Rawa, My wife, and my 2 photographer friends.

Upon arrival at the jetty of Pulau Rawa, we were greeted by CLEAR BLUE WATER and swarms of tiny fish. There were a lot of baby todaks, parrot fish and ikan bilis around. I was already too excited for night time when we have time off shoots to go fishing at the jetty.

The Swarm of Ikan Bilis which greeted our Arrival!

After some light food, we got changed into our beach gear and basked under the sun on the soft white sand to discuss what, where and when to take photographs. We decided that we will do sunset shots only on the first day so the whole day is free! I quickly grabbed some snorkel to recce the terrain that we were going to fish in later that night.

The place is filled with corals and the chances of SANGKUT was confirmed. There were many different types of fishes and I swear that I saw a school of “Pak Chong” in the water. This got me all excited for the night, I just couldn’t wait to prepare for some casting and light popping.

My Beautiful Bride

Me and My Bride!

After the evening shots, we had dinner then followed by some drinks and we were ready for some fishing. Got a bag of cuttlefish from the restaurant, brought my gear and marched to the Jetty, and we were ready to fish!

And then...it was time to prepare to FISH!

First, I had my gear set for popping and another set for bottom fishing (clearly this was for the girls) I tried all sorts of poppers, glow in the dark ones, pencils, chuggers, nothing seems to work on the fishes. You can see the todak giving chase but no bite! Finally I gave up and changed it into a bottom rig. I could feel nibbles on the line, but no solid hook ups. Then as I was changing my bait, I peeped at what the guy on my right was using, he was using apollo’s to land small selars. FARK ME, WHY DIDN’T I THINK of that! My hooks were too big for the fishes mouth! The whole night we were there, we only managed to get a few tugs from the todaks but no solid hook-ups.

Me & My wife waiting for "SOMETHING" to bite!

Fiona & Steve...

The Sotong we never Caught

The Barracuda we never Caught!!

This was frustrating as I was actually under a lot of pressure by my wife and my friends. I was supposed to be the guy who knows his fishing stuff and here I am, not landing one single fish while people around me were landing selars, baby barracuda’s and sotongs all night long! Another thing that was annoying was that I didn’t bring any big hooks for the trip. The guy beside me was using the live selars as bait fish. The gear he was using was pretty heavy for jetty fishing. But when it was hit by something really big, then only I realized that there are some huge mama’s out there. The snap swivel he used was torn wide open by that fish. Thats why we are known as the "SOMETIMES CAN" Anglers, not everytime can get fish one hai mai!

Day 2

We woke up at about 6 in the morning to get the sunrise shots. The tide was at its peak in the morning so before I left my room for the shoot, I hooked on some remaining sotongs and casted it out from my room balcony.

The view from up the Mountain

Mrs Wong & Fiona

We went for breakfast then straight to the jetty for the shoot. We then took a hike up the mountains to snap some shots there as the view was absolutely breath taking.

In the afternoon, it was the same drill, chill by the beach. This time, we got some bread from the Restaurant and was feeding fishes as we snorkeled near the jetty. The fishes were really shy at first but when they got used to eating the bread from our hands, they were unstoppable. Fiona was snorkeling the whole day while me and my wife slept on the hammock. Steve, our other friend was also seen snoozing away on a hammock.

The FANTASTIC 4!

My Favorite shot of the TRIP

5pm sharp, we got changed and headed to the other end of the island for the cave shots. After that, we went for dinner and played some pool. We wanted to go fishing but the weather wasn’t too kind to us, it was raining the whole night. When I got back to my room, I checked my bait, and the line was cut! Don’t know if it was a fish or coral but was too tired to investigate.

Preparing for the CAVE Shot

Day 3

Fiona and Steve had to leave early n this day. Despite our pledges for them to stay, Fiona was insistent that they had to head back and prepare for another shoot the next day. Steve looked like he really wanted to stay but then duty calls, so they left the island on the earliest boat, 10am.

The BYE BYE Shot

The rest of the day, me and my wife just basked under the sun until about 5pm, when we heard thunderstorms. As we made our ways back to our room, the rain got heavier and it never ended, so there goes another night of fishing!

Day 4

This was our last day in this paradise. It was a sad day because it is always difficult to say goodbye to a paradise like this. I will be back next year to this beautiful island and I will be more prepared and land some fish!
